Schedule maintenance windows

Planned work should not wake anyone up or lower your uptime. A maintenance window tells Upcertain when to expect failures, and tells your customers in advance.

Create a window

  1. Open Maintenance in the app and create a window.
  2. Give it a name, the date and time it starts, a duration in minutes (up to 7 days) and the time zone.
  3. Choose how often it repeats: once, every day, on chosen weekdays, or on a day of the month.
  4. Pick the monitors it covers, and save.

Times are wall-clock times in the window's time zone, so a window at 02:00 stays at 02:00 when the clocks change. A monthly window on the 31st is skipped in months that have no 31st.

What happens during the window

  • Checks keep running, so you can watch the work from the monitor pages.
  • Failures do not open incidents and nobody is alerted.
  • The time counts as maintenance, not downtime, in uptime figures.
  • Status pages show the monitors as under maintenance.

An incident that was already open when the window starts stays open, and its reminders wait until the window ends. Resolve or acknowledge it first if the work explains it.

On status pages

Upcoming maintenance for monitors on a page appears in its own section ahead of time, so customers see it before it starts. To also email subscribers, publish an announcement of the type Maintenance; see subscribers.

Changing or deleting a window

Editing a window changes its future occurrences. Deleting it removes future occurrences, while past ones still count as maintenance, so your uptime history does not change after the fact. Overlapping windows count once.
