Email subscribers on a status page

Subscribers hear from you without checking the page. They get an email for each announcement you publish: an incident update, planned maintenance or general news.

Turn subscriptions on

Subscriptions are on by default for public pages. To change it, open the status page, then Appearance, and use Enable subscribe. With it on, the page shows a subscribe form.

How a visitor subscribes

  1. The visitor enters an email address on the status page.
  2. Upcertain sends a confirmation email. Nothing more is sent until it is confirmed.
  3. The visitor presses the button in that email. Opening the link alone does not confirm it, so mail scanners that open links cannot subscribe anyone by accident.

Send an announcement

  1. Open the status page and find Announcements.
  2. Write a title and a body, and choose the type: Information, Incident update or Maintenance.
  3. Save it as a draft, or publish it. Publishing shows it on the page and emails every confirmed subscriber.

Subscribers receive the announcements you publish. Incidents opened by monitors appear on the page automatically but are not emailed on their own, so you decide what is worth a message.

Unsubscribing

Every announcement carries an unsubscribe link. It opens a page with a button, again so a mail scanner cannot unsubscribe anyone. Mail clients that support one-click unsubscribe (RFC 8058) show their own unsubscribe button, which works straight away.

See who is subscribed

The Subscribers list on the page shows how many addresses are confirmed and how many are waiting for confirmation.

Good practice

  • Publish an incident update when customers notice the problem, not for every blip.
  • Announce maintenance a few days ahead, then again when it starts if it affects customers.
  • Close the loop: a short note when an incident is resolved is the message people read most.
