Comparison

Upcertain and Better Stack compared

Better Stack is a broad observability platform: uptime, on-call, logs, traces and more. Upcertain does one part of that, uptime monitoring with incidents and status pages, for teams that want only that part.

Updated 25 October 2026 · By the Upcertain team

The short version

  • Pick Better Stack if you want phone and SMS alerts, on-call schedules, checks from several locations, browser (Playwright) transaction checks, or logs and tracing in the same product.
  • Pick Upcertain if you want uptime checks, confirmed incidents, team alerts and status pages without per-responder licences or paid add-ons for status page options, and an MCP server your whole team can connect to.

Where Better Stack does more

Better Stack checks from several locations, which filters out network trouble between one checker and your server and shows regional outages. It calls and texts the person on duty, runs on-call rotations, and records browser transactions with Playwright. It also bundles logs, metrics, traces and error tracking. Upcertain does none of these. If you need them, Better Stack is the more complete tool.

Where Upcertain is different

  • Status pages that explain outages. Incidents that start together show as one, with each service's own downtime, and brief outages fold into one line per day with their total. See status pages.
  • Status page options without add-ons. Password protection is part of every page, and Team and Business can hide the Upcertain footer link. On Better Stack those are $50 and $250 per page a month.
  • Confirmation you tune per monitor. Set how many re-checks and how far apart, per service, to match how long your deploys fail. See confirmation checks.
  • MCP for the whole team. Any member except notify-only can connect Claude, Cursor or another client with their own sign-in, read-only by default. See the MCP server.
  • Seats. Team and Business include unlimited members with roles.

Moving from Better Stack

  1. Export or list your monitors' URLs, intervals and expected status codes.
  2. Import them into Upcertain with a CSV file (header columns or one URL per line, up to 200 rows at a time) or guided setup.
  3. Add alert channels: Slack, Teams, Discord, Google Chat, email or webhooks.
  4. Build the status page, then move your custom domain's CNAME to pages.upcertain.com (steps).
  5. Run both tools side by side for a week before switching off the old monitors.

Questions

Does Upcertain have a free plan like Better Stack?
Upcertain is in early access: billing is not enabled, accounts start on the Basic plan and plans are assigned from the account.
Does Upcertain call my phone?
No. Upcertain alerts by email, chat tools and webhooks. If you need phone calls, Better Stack or a paging tool connected to an Upcertain webhook can do that.
