Comparison

Upcertain and Cronitor compared

Cronitor started with cron job monitoring and added uptime checks, status pages and browser checks. Upcertain started with uptime monitoring and includes heartbeats. The overlap is large; the pricing models are not.

The short version

  • Pick Cronitor if you want deep cron telemetry, SMS and on-call integrations, synthetic browser checks or real user monitoring, and like paying per monitor.
  • Pick Upcertain if you want a plan with a set monitor count and unlimited members, status pages with custom domains and password protection included, and an MCP server.

Where Cronitor does more

Cronitor records each cron run in detail, sends SMS, integrates with PagerDuty, Datadog On-Call, OpsGenie and Splunk On-Call, runs synthetic browser checks and collects real user monitoring events. It also offers SAML SSO and SCIM provisioning.

Where Upcertain is different

  • Heartbeats and uptime in one place. Upcertain watches cron jobs with heartbeat monitors and also checks websites, APIs, ports and certificates, with the same alert channels and incidents for both.
  • Status pages that show jobs and websites side by side, on your own domain on Team and Business.
  • Periods from 30 seconds to 30 days with a grace period of up to a day.
  • MCP and REST so agents and scripts can read missed heartbeats like any other incident.

Questions to ask before you switch

  • Do you rely on per-run cron telemetry or on-call integrations? Upcertain records whether a heartbeat arrived, not the job's output.
  • Who needs a login, and who only needs alerts? Notify-only contacts cover the second group.
  • How long do your deploys or jobs normally take? That decides confirmation checks and heartbeat grace.

Moving from Cronitor

  1. List what you monitor in Cronitor: URLs, hosts or jobs, with their intervals.
  2. Import URLs and hosts with a CSV file, up to 200 rows at a time (CSV import); add heartbeat monitors one by one.
  3. Add alert channels and send a test to each.
  4. Point your status page subdomain at pages.upcertain.com if you had one (custom domains).
  5. Run both side by side for a week before switching the old checks off.
