Upcertain and Pingdom compared

Pingdom is one of the longest-running website monitors, now part of SolarWinds, with uptime, transaction, page speed and real user monitoring. Upcertain focuses on uptime, incidents and status pages.

The short version

  • Pick Pingdom if you need transaction checks that click through your site, page speed and real user monitoring, SMS alerts, or the SolarWinds platform.
  • Pick Upcertain if you want straightforward plans with alert channels for chat tools, heartbeat and port checks, tunable confirmation and an MCP server.

Where Pingdom does more

Pingdom runs scripted transactions such as a sign-in or checkout, measures page speed, collects real user monitoring data and sends SMS alerts. Larger teams also get SolarWinds' infrastructure and application monitoring next to it.

Where Upcertain is different

  • Alerts in chat tools on every plan: Slack, Teams, Discord, Google Chat and signed webhooks.
  • Heartbeat and port monitors for jobs and services without a web page.
  • Confirmation checks per monitor, tuned to your deploys.
  • Status pages that group incidents and fold brief outages, with custom domains on Team and Business.
  • MCP for agents and a REST API on every plan.

Questions to ask before you switch

  • Do you rely on transaction or page speed checks? Upcertain does not run them.
  • Who needs a login, and who only needs alerts? Notify-only contacts cover the second group.
  • How long do your deploys or jobs normally take? That decides confirmation checks and heartbeat grace.

Moving from Pingdom

  1. List what you monitor in Pingdom: URLs, hosts or jobs, with their intervals.
  2. Import URLs and hosts with a CSV file, up to 200 rows at a time (CSV import); add heartbeat monitors one by one.
  3. Add alert channels and send a test to each.
  4. Point your status page subdomain at pages.upcertain.com if you had one (custom domains).
  5. Run both side by side for a week before switching the old checks off.

Questions

Can Upcertain check that a checkout works?
Not by clicking through it. A keyword monitor on the checkout page or a health endpoint that exercises the payment path catches many checkout failures.
Does Upcertain measure page speed?
Each check records its response time, but Upcertain does not load pages in a browser or score them.
Is there a free plan?
Upcertain is in early access: billing is not enabled, accounts start on the Basic plan and plans are assigned from the account.
